is there anybody who has had diabetes for more than 7 years who has perfect blood sugar control?

January 23rd, 2010 -- Posted in blood sugar control | 3 Comments »

any sucess stories? please tell me about how you manage, have you have coped with different areas of life, e.g. sex, travel, eating out, alcohol, drugs, temptations, relationships, fighting depression, fear, staying postive, talking to doctors etc. anything you can tell me that may be useful will be hughely appreciated.

NO diabetic has "perfect" blood sugar control…that’s the nature of the disease. The pancreas acts like a thermostat to administer insulin to keep BG in perfect range. Without enough insulin, the best we can do is mimic that process as best we can. Even the mildest Type 2’s are out of range sometimes. So the best thing you can do for yourself is accept that there’s an important part of your body that is broken, and you just need to do the best you can. Downloading your BG meter into tracking software on the manufacturer’s website can help you identify patterns during the day to help you tweak your insulin or meds. Keep up your doc visits, and make sure you see an endocrinologist if you use insulin. Diabetes educators are wonderful because they can spend more time with you and often know more than the endo’s! CHECK YOUR BG AT LEAST 4x/DAY! Above all else, know that you’ll have bad days sometimes…cry or yell or whatever gets the anger out of your system, then dust yourself off and get back on that horse.

I had gestational diabetes and had my baby 3 months ago. I still have high blood sugar. Am I diabetic?

January 23rd, 2010 -- Posted in high blood sugar | 2 Comments »

My blood sugar is still as high. My fasting is between 95-110 and after meals is regularly between 135-155 and occasionally as high as 190. I keep my portions small and do not eat candy, sweets, white bread, pasta….you get the idea. My weight is still a little high from pregnancy but I am working on getting it back down to 125. Am I doomed to be a diabetic? I am scared to do the follow-up sugar test because I don’t want the diagnosis.

well it does take a few months to get ur system back into its normal levels but if by another month it does not change u might be diabetic..i would say speak with ur doctor and let him/she know whats going on so u can be treated

Can the medication Metformin lower my blood sugar too much?

January 22nd, 2010 -- Posted in Lowering blood sugar | 5 Comments »

I went to the doctor for irregular cycles and menstrual migraines.
My doctor after taking blood work decided to put me on Metformin.
My mother takes this for diabetes.
I asked the doctor what my fasting blood sugar was and she said it was a 84.
Unless I’m wrong 80-120 is normal blood sugar levels.
So since I’m on the low end of normalcy, is the Metformin going to lower my blood sugar too much?

I have been on and off Metformin for about 4 years (only off when I am pregnant)…. Your fasting blood is fine, but there are probably other reasons why she put you on it, namely your irregular cycles. I went through 3 rounds of IVF for my first 3 children (I have PCOS, and would go 9-10 months without periods), then Metformin became more popular I was put on that. Within 2 months I had a period every month and then the first month we tried to get pregnant it worked and I have a 16 month old… I am also 26 weeks pregnant also with the help of Metformin…
In my own experience Metformin never made my sugars drop, it just helped keep them in balance. If you are nervous speak with your doctor and ask why this is the medication they decided on.
Personally I LOVE Metformin and it has done wonders for me, but I am sure every case is different. I would for sure give it a try though!
Good Luck!

January 22nd, 2010 -- Posted in Diabetes natural remedies | 6 Comments »

i used to have like hair you would envy. it was thick, silky, shiny and healthy. tht was untill i had type 2 diabetes. i’m just 21 but i’m losing hair like ppl do in their 40’s n 50’s. i need to knw some natural herbal remedies to stop hairfall n grow new hair. even if i cant get bak to having my old hair, i wanna get as close as possible. any advice wuld be greatly appreciated.

Mention this to your doctor. He may want to screen you for auto immune disease, hormone problems or thyroid. If he has done this already (which is likely because of your diabetes) ,try adding a bit of extra protein in your diet .Try a vitamin supplement designed for hair hair like MSM and keep your scalp healthy by massaging a hair growth oil on it such as Magical Hair Growth in the african american section of hair care. (You don’t need to be african american to use it)
Hair also falls out seasonally or during times of stress.
Good Luck to you!

What can you do to help to lower your blood sugar after you overeat?

January 21st, 2010 -- Posted in Lowering blood sugar | 16 Comments »

I am Type II Diabetic. Supposing I overeat, it doesn’t matter, what my blood sugar has gone too high as a result. Other than extra medication which I won’t do if it is not prescribed ,is there anything I can do to help lower it to a better level? Don’t say don’t overeat because let’s face it, everyone does it once in awhile!

Personally, I think you might benefit from therapy. My long-term health is much more important than pigging out on occasion. I watched my mother die a slow, miserable, tortuous death over many years from diabetic complications because she felt the same way you apparently do. No offense, but you might benefit from reading the link below that refers to the psychology behind overeating. The rest wouldn’t hurt to familiarize yourself with either. There are many supplements that you can take that will help your blood glucose regulation, but there is nothing that I know of that will compensate for overeating. Here’s more:

For type I and type II diabetics (and those who are overweight and could potentially become diabetic). Copy and bookmark the webpages I‘ve listed below… they are invaluable for those with diabetes and/or weight problems…

I’ve found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I’m a type II (inherited), but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It’s by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. It’s called, "The Diabetes Improvement Program". I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it’s the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don’t have a close relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. So, in some instances, it most certainly can be ‘effectively’ cured. Read more about it here:

The book explains what’s going on in our system and what to do about it. It’s really easy and inexpensive. It’s basically diet, supplements, and exercise. For example, did you know that cinnamon helps blood sugar absorption? It also controls cholesterol and triglycerides. This is according to the USDA:

For men: Are you suffering from erectile dysfunction? I was. Yes, WAS. Now that everything’s under control, I’m able to have nearly normal sex again. I’ve also put together a little webpage highlighting some of the things I’ve learned here:

Is it true that Type 2 diabetes can be cured by herbal medicines?

January 21st, 2010 -- Posted in Cure for Type 2 Diabetes | 8 Comments »

Sorry but no. There is no "cure", herbal or medical, for diabetes at this point in time.
There are herbal supplements on the market that can help in controlling / reducing blood glucose levels, but check with your doctor. Some herbs can actually interact / react with your prescribed medications.

Cinnamon is a popular trend right now that is safe for anyone to try. It comes in capsule form or you can sprinkle it on your food. That might be something that you want to check out. I can’t vouch for it actually working or anything, but it couldn’t hurt to try with just cinnamon, right?

Good luck and best wishes…

I recently heard of a hospital in Madras, India that has developed a cure for diabetes. How can I contact them?

January 21st, 2010 -- Posted in Cure for Type 1 Diabetes | 3 Comments »

This hospital claims to have a cure for diabetes type 1. I would like to email or call the hospital but do not have an address or any means of communication with them. Has any1 else heard of this hospital? How can I contact them? – Thanks

If there was a cure for diabetes, it would make the news worldwide.
You would never have to call a researcher yourself.

Collitis .. my dad has it.. trying to help him..?

January 21st, 2010 -- Posted in Diabetes natural remedies | 3 Comments »

My elderly dad has collitus and is currently under treatment for it. But he really isnt one to ask the right questions and get the help he needs. He complains that he has to run to the restroom after eating and is afraid to go out of the house now. I guess it comes on like an attack of some kind. I know that there has to be some kind of diet, or supplements he can take to alleviate his ..diahrea..problems. He also was diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago, and has lost over 20 lbs since cutting out sugar. His combined ailments have made him weak, losing weight, and a little depressed about it too. He seems afraid to try a new diet, or some natural remedy. Also the meds he is on might be causing some of the probs too. Hard to tell. What do you suggest…

He needs a bland diet that is easy to digest. If he is having as much trouble as you say, he should go back to his doctor for advice (maybe go with him so you can ask the questions he may forget to ask).
