Is 114 a high blood sugar for a girl who is 18 years old?
I am healthy, 18 years old, 5′10" and weigh 140 pounds.. do you think my blood sugar is high?
My dad has diabetes and my two grandfathers had diabetes before they passed away. I do not eat any rice, pastas, or bread, but I do eat a lot of fruit and have smoothies sometimes for lunch…
I took right when I woke up.. about 12 hours after I ate?
Blood sugar of 114 you have mensioned is fasting plasma glucose test or oral glucose tolerance test.
Fasting Plasma Glucose Test
It measures your blood glucose after you have gone at least 8 hours without eating. This test is used to detect diabetes or pre-diabetes.
Normal: 99 mg/dl or 5.5 mmol/l and below
Pre-diabetes: 100 to 125 mg/dl or 5.55 to 6.94 mmol/l (impaired fasting glucose)
Diabetes: 126 mg/dl or 7 mmol/l and above
Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (2-Hour Plasma Glucose Result)
It measures your blood glucose after you have gone at least 8 hours without eating and 2 hours after you drink a glucose-containing beverage.
Normal: 139 mg/dl or 7.72 mmol/l and below
Pre-diabetes: 140 to 199 mg/dl or 7.77 to 11 mmol/l (impaired glucose tolerance)
Diabetes: 200 mg/dl or 11.1 mmol/l and above

That’s pretty good. Normal is about 120, if it goes over 130 then be careful.

When did you take it? If you ate before you took it, that number is meaningless. If you took it first thing in the morning after 8+ hours of fasting, you may have reason to worry. But you still wouldn’t be a diabetic – yet.

For a fasting blood sugar it should be 100 or less. I would go to the doctor and ask him to check you for diabetes.

It’s just slightly high. Just make sure its not over like, 130, or you might have to watch it more. MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN OF YOUR FINGER WITH SOAP AND WATER OR AN ALCOHOL WIPE. Your blood sugar appear to be higher if your fingers not clean.

It depends on what time of day you took the reading. Normal fasting blood sugar (before breakfast) is 70 to 99 mg/L. Two hours after eating, it should not exceed 120 mg/L. So, it you took your reading after eating, it could be fine. If yu took it first thing in the morning, it’s too high.

Yes, your sugar is high. Have your doctor check out your blood sugar to be sure you don’t have diabetes.

Lay off of the fruit and the smoothies. Fruit is loaded with sugar.

That’s called a fasting test & yes it’s a little high. Get a glucose meter & keep an eye on it. Avoid food with high amounts of sugar like soda. Diet is ok.
