Yes, it does. It also helps control triglycerides and cholesterol. This does not mean that taking cinnamon all by itself is going to help much. It is a small part of a comprehensive plan that includes nothing but healthy foods and a daily exercise routine. More on that here: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Type_II_Diabetes.html

I was just wondering. Since my blood sugar has been messed up it has caused frequent yeast infections, does that also cause problems with getting pregnant? I just started taking my medicine again, so things should get better but i have been wondering because i have been with the same guy for 5 years and i have never gotten pregnant, but i also have poly cystic ovarian syndrome

It won’t affect your fertility, but you need to get your BG’s in very strict control before you even think about getting pregnant. Diabetes and pregnancy don’t mix well even in the best of circumstances. Rates of miscarriage and birth defects are extremely high, so it’s possible you’ve been pregnant and quickly miscarried if your BG’s have been high. Start working with a diabetes educator…your A1C’s will need to be < 6.0 before you even get pregnant to maximize your chances for a healthy delivery.

The better I do at those, the less medication I need. I’ve actually gone several days without medication just by diligent application of the above.

Exercise is the best substitute for Metformin.Metformin increases the insulin(already existing in your body)to go into cells .Metformin does not stimulate production of insulin.Exercise also facilitates insulin transmission into cells.Exercise is good for the body in several other ways.Even if you do not lose weight, exercise improves insulin utilisation.Advice to all diabetics–Try diet and exercise first.Drugs only if diet and exercise fail.

I am"pre diabetes" and experiment with Cinnamon and Chromium,is this a waste of time and money?

Let me answer your question very directly and frankly. Diabetes is not something you want to gamble with on your own. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to blindness, stroke, kidney failure, limb amputation, and death.

Type I diabetes results when the body doesn’t make insulin. Type II diabetes is when you make insulin, but the body doesn’t use it effectively (or you do not make enough). Insulin is produced by the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. Its function is to serve as a carrier molecule to transport glucose across the plasma membrane of human cells. Without insulin, your cells can’t use glucose — which means that your cells and organs gradually starve and die.

There are many treatments available for diabetes and pre-diabetes. Only a qualified medical professional should decide which ones are right for you. Please do not gamble with your own life by experimenting with herbal supplements on your own. I am NOT opposed to herbs and use several myself, but as someone in the medical field I know enough to seek competent advice first. Your doctor will appreciate your wanting to be an active participant in your own care.

One more note — one of the most important things to do is to stay in shape, lose excess weight, and exercise regularly. Exercise helps the body use insulin more effectively. Check with your healthcare provider before starting any exercise program.

Cinnamon has benefits but it cannot be used alone to treat diabetes instead it can be used as a supplement.

Cinnamon has many health benefits. It has shown promise in the treatment of diabetes, arthritis, high cholesterol, memory function, and even leukemia and lymphoma.

Two teaspoons of cinnamon has about 12 calories.

Studies have shown that just 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon per day can lower LDL cholesterol.

Several studies suggest that cinnamon may have a regulatory effect on blood sugar, making it especially beneficial for people with Type 2 diabetes.

In some studies, cinnamon has shown an amazing ability to stop medication-resistant yeast infections.

In a study published by researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Maryland, cinnamon reduced the proliferation of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells.

It has an anti-clotting effect on the blood.

When added to food, it inhibits bacterial growth and food spoilage, making it a natural food preservative.

One study found that smelling cinnamon boosts cognitive function and memory.

It is a great source of manganese, fiber, iron, and calcium.

In one lab study, the team said it found that cinnamon contains polyphenols, or antioxidants, that boost proteins that are important in activating insulin, transporting glucose and responding to inflammation

The second study extracted proanthocyanidin, a type of polyphenol in the commonly used spice that researchers say may have insulin-like properties.
