Sometimes I feel really tired that one time I was knocked out from 5pm to 7pm. I have also had blurry vision. When I eat something salty or sugar sometimes a little or a lot I have a feeling of tiredness. I looked up high blood sugar and that seemed to fit more than high blood pressure. I just don’t want to be worrying if I have diabetes because I am obese.
Hi there,
I strongly recommend you go see the doctor to have this checked out, as your symptoms certainly warrant investigation anyway. If you do have diabetes, it is much better to get it diagnosed and put a management plan together that to leave it unchecked and damaging your body. A person can’t just have ‘high blood sugar‘ – they either have diabetes or they don’t. Your symptoms may not be blood-sugar related anyway, but you need to get checked out as soon as you can.
Good luck!
What foods should I eat with this?? I like to get sugar-free stuff for the high blood sugar, but sometimes tends to have a lot of sodium. If I go for low sodium food, it is sometimes high in sugar. I should not have caffeine either. I am in college and it is very hard for me to eat well. Any particular brands that I should get at the store? I’m not good with food and need details! What are good snacking foods? And if I am to eat out, what are the best choices for this? Thank you!
Boiled or broiled chicken breasts
Lean beef
Lean pork
Broccoli without cheese sauce
Broiled fish.
if you eat, avoid fried foods. Go for broiled or boiled.
BurgerKing burgers are flame broiled, and are better than McDonalds or Wendy’s (which are fried). Take the top off hte bun, and eat it with a fork. No french fries; eat a 1/2 order of onion rings. Drink water instead of colas or tea.
Red Lobster has good broiled entries, but stay away fronm the clam chowder. Get vegetable sides, or rice pilaf.
No chinese food — too much sodium. Mexican tends to be high in sodium, too. Eat more beasn, less rice.
General rules:
Go for lean meats
Go for broiled, boiled, or flame broiled instead of fried or deep fried.
Try to get steamed veggies.
Avoid potatoes of all types.
Avoid cheese and/or cream sauces like Alfredo.
Avoid cream based soups. Ask the server what BROTH (water) based soups they have.
Anything with tomatoes (marinara sauce, pizza) tends to have a lot of sugar to counteract the natural acidity of tomatoes. Tomatoes in salads or on sandwiches are OK.
Vinegar and oil dressing is better than blue cheese or thousand island.
Italian food is probably NOT your best choice: Cheeses, creasm sauces, and marinaras.
“Every time your blood sugar spikes to a particular level, it will cause an oxidative stress to your blood vessels,” says Gerald Bernstein, MD, director of the diabetes management program at the Friedman Diabetes Institute at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.
