How Do I Lower High Blood Sugar?

As a type 2 diabetic who is not on insulin I watch my diet closely but sometimes that doesn’t seem to be enough, just wondering if anyone out there has some golden answer for lowering high blood sugar.

If you are type 2 then I would advise severely limiting your carbs for the following reason.The best thing type 2 diabetics can do it severely limit their carb intake to balance out sugar and insulin levels. When this is done, your body will adjust accordingly and compensate by shifting into the fat metabolism state. Fat does not need insulin to be converted to energy and so your blood sugar levels will remain much more even without any violent swings from high to low. This stops hypoglycemic reactions and gives your pancreas time to rest and rejuvenate.

    Watch your carbs. Watch them EXTREMELY close.

    Obviously, wathc your sugar intake. read the ingredients on the package. if "Sucrose", "Fructose", or "Corn syrup": is one of the first three ingredients, you shouldn’t weat it.

    Caffeine can raise your blood dugar. As you know, caffeine can make you "jittery". But this "jittery-ness" causes your blood sugar to go up. So avoid caffeine. Buy ONLY Caffeine-Free diet sodas (and drink only 1 or 2 a day. Buy decafe tea and coffee. Stay away from Starbucks and energy drinks (like Rock Star cola).

    Eat more fiber — like brocolli and green salads. eat mroe whole wheat cereasl, and if you eat breads eat only whole wheat breads.

    Exercise will make your sugar go temporarily high, so be careful when you take you finger stick readings. right after an exercise session is probably not good. This is because you liver will "dump" excess sugar during exercise.

    But ultimately, exercise is good for you. the dump is normal, and overall you blood sugar level goes down.

    Have you doctor do an A1C reading every 3 months. This way you can ee[p track of how you are doing on an overall, average basis.

    You got good answers except for this part:

    You should not get a liver dump during exercise if you eat the right amount of carbs, before and during a long exercise. Liver dumps are not healthy and should be avoided.

    I know that cinnamon and fenugreek are good natural remedies for lowering blood sugar. I have a friend who takes insulin shots twice a day and one day he forgot to take in the morning. Someone at work gave him a product to try, Fenu-Well which is based on a fenugreek seed extract and he said after taking it, he felt better immediately. He had to keep taking it every couple of hours and it kept him from being sick until he got home at night.
