I have had lab work done and ultrasound of upper abdomen. The ultrasound came back fine, all my lab work came back fine except my blood sugar level, it is 106. Does this mean I may have diabetes and what can cause blood sugar level to be high, I am alwasy afraid I have cancer and it is alwasy on my mind, I am 44. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

That is not too abnormally high. It may have been a little elevated because you ate right before?

There are many factors that contribute to developing diabetis (your sugar level I think is not enough to warrant that diagnosis; you need more tests). Your lifestyle, obesity, and, especially, your genetic makeup all contribute. If you are overweight, losing weight is a priority.

Blood sugar problems are not something to take to YA! board though. There are plenty resources out there, starting with your doctor. Schedule a visit with your doctor, schedule further tests, discuss lifestyle changes and medication options (again, your blood sugar isn’t conclusively a sign of diabetis).

Wired: the "normal" cutoff levels for a diabetic person are different from the levels for healthy people.

That’s nothing really to be worried about. Generally, we consider 110 or below to be normal, 110-125 to be pre-diabetes, and 126+ to be diabetes as the fasting glucose levels.

That is odd. My daughter has Type 1 and the range we try to keep her in, for a normal bg, is 80-150. That is supposed to be the normal range…when we check ourselves at home its always around the range you just mentioned. High would be like in the 2 or 300′s and really really high, close to coma would be around 7-800s. Are you sure you have the right number??
