If you are a non-insulin dependent diabetic, is sleepiness during the day a sign of high blood sugar?

My diabetic, ( not me) ate out lunch & dinner the day before, the next day he spent sleeping most of the day away. Does that mean his sugar was high? If so how could he have lowered it?

if he ate a high carb meal , his BS levels might have been high…that could’ve made him sleepy..i know when i eat potatoes or spaghetti, i get very sleepy…i have type 2 diabetes…he should drink lots of water..and exercise lightly that will bring it down quite a bit…if he is not on meds. he needs to se a dr… the meds. help keep it down if you dont overdo …portion control

It could have been. However, the only definitive way of knowing would be to test his blood sugar. Being a type II Diabetic, his oral medication should help if the dose is correct. A newer type of therapy combines oral medication with insulin.

Some people say they suffer from this. I never did. I get hyper if my sugar is high.

    Yes, it is.

He should be testing it with a blood glucose monitoring kit.

He should be reducing his carbs so this won’t happen. Exercise can help bring it down, and so can drinking water, but its best to avoid highs in the first place. He should talk to a diabetes dietician for some guidance.
