Is 600 considered a high blood sugar level?

My step dad’s doctor told him that his blood sugar level is at 600 and that he needs to get to the emergency room. Is this considered life threatening? He has recently had a stroke and has to walk with a cane because he falls. He has also lost a lot of weight.

Oh my heavens yes!!! My doctor advised me to keep my blood sugar levels under 100 in order to maintain a healthy level. Diabetes runs in my family so I have a physical every year.

UMM yes that is very critical! I work in an ER and our glucose machine doesnt even register over 400. 600 is almost life threatening. He could end up in a diabetic coma…he needs to go to the ER NOW

    YES!!! VERY HIGH!!!

When I was diagnosed I was 668. The docs told me if I didn’t get to the ER, I would have went into a coma in less than 12 hours.

    Best Wishes.

Well, considering NORMAL blood sugar ranges usually 80 – 120, or 150 for some diabetics, yes, 600 is VERY DANGEROUS. He could go into a coma or have seizures and possibly even die from complications like failing organs from stress of the high sugar level.

Consume plenty of fiber-rich foods such as cereals…pulses…vegetables and fruits. Fiber has a low glycemic index and helps to lower blood sugar levels. Avoid having fruit juices and fruits like bananas and mangoes as they have high sugar content.
