A three-month study in Sweden compared the blood sugar effects of a paleo (very low-carb) diet with a diet comprised of whole grains, low-fat dairy, fruits, vegetables, and unsaturated fats. After the three months, participants’ blood sugar levels dropped 26 percent with the paleo diet and only 7 percent with the diet containing dairy and whole grains.

Anyone who’s been diagnosed with diabetes has to be very careful about their diet. The stereotypical idea about diabetics is that they have to cut out all sugar and starch from their diet. According to this view, about all one can eat is high protein foods and maybe some vegetables. The fact is, you can have much more diversity than this, though your own doctor has to guide you of course. The critical factor is that your blood glucose levels are watched at all times.
