   insulin injections are the last resort. Your doctor may try you on a strict diet with moderate exercise(therapy) first. They will do whatever it takes to help you, 300′s is very high.

   if ur sugar is that high and it wont go down u seriously need to go to the er. that is very high and u could go into diabetic shock. please take care of urself. diabetes is no joke. take it serioulsy.

   No, they will not administer insulin for you at the ER. Before any insulin is administered, you must be observed and diagnosed with diabetes which requires insulin treatment. FYI, a temporary 300 blood sugar isn’t going to cause you to collapse and die. The effects of such damage from high blood sugar are generally long term.

   Did you ask this type of question already? Mostly they will try to treat you with something else other than insulin unless you are confirmed with Type I Diabetes. Glucophage (metformin) is an oral medication that can help lower and maintain blood sugars and in generic form is rather inexpensive.

   And agreed, 300 is not going to kill you or make you slip into a coma. I’ve seen people come into the ER with a 500 blood sugar before. Best to avoid things high in sugar or carbs until you can get in to see a physician. You said in your other post regarding the same situation that you cannot get into see your primary doctor this week, so go to an urgent care facility, if they are not available then go to the ER.

   If you experience changes in vision (blurry, loss of, or double vision), increase in heart rate (60-100 beats per minute is normal), or increase in breathing (above 20 breaths per minute), then go straight to the ER…BUT DONT DRIVE YOURSELF if you have these symptoms, instead have someone else drive you…if nobody else can, then call your local emergency medical service like 911….but only if you experience these additional symptoms.

   Ok, well I answered your other question by recommending 5 units of U100 Humalog. However, you sound like a newbie, or just don’t care to learn about your diabetes. If you don’t have a prescription, you can’t buy Humalog. However, you can buy Regular Humulin over the counter. Juice up with 5 units of that. You could also knock down an under-300 bg with some exercise without shooting up additionally, assuming you have a basal supply of NPH, Lente, Lantis, or Levermir in your body. Go run around the block or have sex.
   Don’t waste ER doctors’ and nurses’ time by running to the ER with something so simple to remedy yourself.
